What Has 2010 Got In Store?

Been thinking about this a lot obviously recently.  Apart from hoping that this is the year that I finally crack the 13 stone target and keep under it, I do think that we will see significant social and political change around the world in the coming year – which will affect how we all see the world in decades to come.

First of all, I fear that we will get entrenched in Afghanistan well and truly next year – it seems that the full realisation of what we have got ourselves into is only beginning to be appreciated in the last few months, particularly as we have moved ourselves away from Iraq and Dubya’s private war – to the main reason why we were in the neighbourhood in the first fucking place.

In that same region I predict that we could see some momentous scenes in Tehran, Estafan, Tabriz and across Iran as the Green Revolution takes hold and eventually takes down the entire Theocratic regime in Iran – it will be interesting to see whether or not Obama can continue to resist the urge to openly support the protesters.

Some things won’t change – the government will still be in power – even if it’s a different fucking hue of government – the bastards will still keep on churning out the same old, failed – fucked up policies which have not worked for the past 25 years and have allowed the ordinary person on the street get alienated with politics in this country.

and no doubt England will dazzle in the group stages in South Africa…and lose in a penalty shoot-out to Portugal…again.

Going Out For The Night...

Evening,

Used to love doing it, every week going out on one aiming to survive the night without throwing up. making a complete cunt of myself or both.

Just doesn't excite me as it did.

I'll be out tonight, but more than likely I'll be the one being all sensible whilst others make twats of themselves...

Memo To Paul Dacre

Hurry up and put Leo McKinstry and Jan Moir to pasture.

Seriously, they are fucking deluded cunts.

And I thought Richard Littlejohn was a cunt.

They Didn’t Listen…

What did we expect?

It was pretty fucking obvious pretty early on that regardless of whom tried to get some clemency for Akmal Shaikh, that it was always going to fall on deaf ears.

Akmal Shaikh was murdered by the Chinese State sometime after 2.30am this morning.

Because that is what it was, and the Prime Minister should not be kow-towed into saying anything but that.

What we need to do now is to punish China in the harshest way possible.

  • We need to help get rid of the China friendly governments in Burma and Iran, where repression is dealt with by using weapons produced by China.
  • We must actively support the autonomous regions in Western China, Tibet in  particular in their continuing struggle for independence.
  • We must actively support those within China and Hong Kong who are looking for the country to move towards democratic reform.

There must be consequences – even if our government’s too scared to do it themselves.

Not The Sales Again!!!

Evening,

Since being off for the holidays, I have been looking online for any great bargains pretty much since I got home from work on Christmas Eve. One of the things that I have noticed this year in comparison to previous years is the lack of great offers in the major retailers and I had to go to some different places this year.

I was going to head to London, yesterday however on Saturday evening I bought two Lyle and Scott jumpers for the same price as I can in the store in Covert Garden - as well as a pair of Onitsuka Tigers.

This evening I have been toying with the idea of getting this Argyle diamond jumper, again from Lyle and Scott as well as this Peter Werth wool jacket - however we've gone for two graphic tops from All Saints - their shirts are amongst the most beautifully designed around.

Think we've got about £160 left in my sales allowance so we might give it a few days and see what happens from there.

Also off topic, after much quibbling with my sister, I've finally have got back my barometer and temperature sensor which if you haven't see the weather forecast for the next week or so, might be rather useful...

Mind how you go.

Raging Against The Machine

Oh yeah.  Cracking little title for this post!

It seems that every day there is some tyrannical cunt somewhere in the world, trying to make themselves as popular as Pork Stew being served at a Barmitzvah.  Today that prized cunt – or cunts to use the adjective term is the people of the Communist Party of China.

It seems the term Mentally Ill has not arrived in the corridors of power in Beijing, because they are in the process of putting to death someone who was only found guilty of some 4kg of heroin.

So he wasn’t found guilty of massacring innocent protesters (ala Tiananman Square) or passing on weapons to be used against demonstrators (eg, Saffron Revolution, Burma 2008) or for that matter, launching widespread population change in places such as Urumqui (where the unfortunate Briton is on death row) or Tibet.

In comparison to some of the acts of pure genocide that China has initiated in recent years, this is rather minor.

Executing such a man is not going to do your standing any good whatsoever right now in the world.  There are a lot of people in the world (me included) who want you to stop financing arms deal to such countries as Burma (or Myanmar as you love calling it) or for that matter Iran, scene of recent protests.

Do yourself a favour.  Release Akmal Shaikh now.

Long Time…

And so I apologise again for a lack of posts during these past few weeks, I have been thinking in recent months about the way that I want this blog to go and whether it should be a blog in which I air my opinions purely of global events or whether I should take it down a more personal route and the way it affects my life.

In the end I have decided to go for a smuch of the two if you will.  A combination of the above – in other words, what I am thinking at that moment in time.

A new concept, I know!  But in these momentous times that we live in, it is important that people the world over can see what like-minded individuals are thinking – it is when those like-minded form a coalition, a united front against authority for whatever reason, that real change can come about and come about it does.

We are continuing to see amazing pictures coming out Iran this very afternoon, of young people rising up against the theocratic system forced upon them.  Uprisings like these can and do inspire others throughout the globe to join as one to make the world a better place.

To make those in authority accountable for their actions, that is in the end all we want.

Unelected and Unwanted

That should be the message that our masters in Brussels should be thinking to themselves this evening as they self-congratulate themselves over electing themselves some new fucking leaders including one person who has got to where she is right now even though she has never in her political career EVER once been elected into office by those whom she is supposed to represent nowadays.

Democracy?  Fucking joke that.

What Is That Smell?

In amongst all the furore surrounding the Prime Minister’s somewhat poor attempt to apologise to the family of Guardsman Jamie Janes for the appallingly bad letter which was sent to them in the aftermath of their son’s death in Vietnam Afghanistan, there has been little apart from certain friendly commentators about the conduct of a certain rag’s part in the whole sordid affair.

But then it is the Scum at work, so no level of boundaries for that shite of a rag to get down to…

In Memoriam

At 11am this morning, the country will fall silent for two minutes to remember the fallen of past wars and conflicts.

Whether they died at in the mud covered horrors of Ypres or the sun-stroked heat of Helmand, we will remember them.

4 November 2009

This Might Be Painful...

But for the troops in Afghanistan it is a very different sort of pain as they cope with losing another five comrades at the hands of a supposed lone assassin in Helmand province.

It does bring into question the very reason that we are over there, for whilst there are some deluded fanatics who want to take Afghanistan from the Middle Ages to the Stone Age - there is a whole generation who want and demand change.

Perhaps Twitter can do something, the protests in Iran are continuing thanks to it...

If You Have Nothing To Say…

Then say fuck all.  It will do you no good for your future prospects.

Seriously, in recent weeks we have seen various examples of people saying what they think and get round upon by their rivals, enemies, critics.

Whether it is Roberto Martinez, the newly installed Wigan manager who criticised Taggart’s boot boys for bowing down to the whisky soaked cunt every time they play the Corporation…

Or there is the Professor who was sacked for telling the truth about drugs…

There is no point in telling it like it is, because otherwise you make your own life that bit more difficult, that there is no point in doing so.

Make your life easy.

Say Fuck All..

Mind how you go…

Compare And Contrast

Evening,

Something that I have seen on PoliticalBetting this afternoon, showing the difference in leads that the Tories have got at the moment in comparison to the sort of lead that Labour had prior to their landslide in 1997.  And it makes for extremely bad reading for Chairman Brown.

The above is the poll that ICM/Guardian ran at the start of November 1996, some six months prior to the subsequent landslide that bought Blair into Downing Street.  Now although Labour had a commanding 13 point lead, look at where the Tories were back then.  Fuck, Chairman Brown would probably kill to be anywhere near the sort of figures that the Tories were on, at their Nadir.

Which opens up any number of questions, primarily just how bad could the scale of defeat could be for Labour whenever they announce the date of the election, and what would be the consequences of such a dire result for Labour.

I get the feeling that just like 96/97 voters have made their minds up. They might not like the Tories but they just want the election to happen so they can put Brown in his place. It is said that it is not oppositions who win elections, it is governments who lose them.

Rob :)

To Lose One Is Bad, But To Lose Two…

…and the fallout from the sacking of Professor David Nutt for telling the unpalatable truth on drugs seems to be getting from bad to worse.

Afternoon all and news reaches me via Sky News that another eminent scientist has resigned from his government advisory role in protest of the above mentioned sacking.  Fears are growing within government circles of further resignations, or possibly an en masse decapitation scenario with every scientist on the Drug advisory Board resigning in support of Professor Nutt.

From sacking someone for telling people how it is, it would be seen as summing up the ineptitude with the Labour Government right now.  But like all embattled governments, they will not admit that they, like all governments before them have been wrong in this regard.  And this resignation being forced upon Professor Nutt by someone who is supposed to represent the Progressive Left.

The bottom line remains this:  Alcohol and cigarettes are far far more likely to harm and eventually kill its addicts, than drugs such as Cannabis and Ecstasy, but too many influential people in high places have got too much to lose by admitting that.

Corruption Kills.

So Here We Are…

Evening all,

Well as promised I am writing now on my new laptop, reduced from £480 down to £330, with Norton thrown in for an extra £10 which I don’t think is a bad day’s return.  Naturally, some of you are going to be wondering how it is that I am able to be writing and sending these directly from my laptop at this time of night….

I have been able to get some form of file onto my beloved iPhone which allows me to tether my 3G network into a form of Ethernet cable which is plugged from the phone to the laptop.  Which is fucking fantastic.

Which should mean more posting and more concise and better posts.

That is no bad thing I think you will agree!

image

Onto tonight’s news, and as we head into November it seems that Chairman Brown’s woes continue with Labour continuing to be languishing further behind the Tories than they have been for a while – which is saying something.  Noted in the poll that the Lib Dems are now only four points behind Sorry labour, which however you try to paint is a very sorry situation for any Prime Minister to be heading into the last few months of the year.

Mind how you go…

Rob :)

So It Wasn't The End...

Afternoon,

After much pontificating and soulsearching (actually that's bollocks!) I've decided that this is in fact not the end of BBB. In fact more a departure in the way that the website goes. BBB will stay the same, whilst spilling over onto other issues, such as Football and Music, the other two passions in my life.

Against mother's wishes I have gone against her hopes and got myself a new laptop today, pretty good as well, 2.2 Celeron, 3gb memory and the fuck off massive 500gb hard drive which for a laptop is phenomenal. I've also found a way to get online via the laptop without using the broadband which is in my sister's bedroom. God bless the tether! More about that this evening.

I've also made a somewhat controversial decision over where I go from here - in regard of the bottom line that my life seems to be going nowhere and quickly! Here's a clue, it isn't here.

So here I am in a cafè, engulfed in the smells of my youth, awaiting my bangers and mash, oh they've arrived so I'm going to have this and we'll speak later...

Rob :)

19 October 2009

The End...or The Beginning.

I have been doing this website for the past few years and in that time it has evolved from being a website for my own personal thoughts, constant slagging off of politicians and those around my life.

However, today changes that.

With the end of BBB, comes the start of a new side of me. Getting back at the bastards which are the bain of my (and probably your) life.

So come abroad. It's going to be a fucking free-for-all.

The Unwanted Children..

Evening,

About two years ago I watched a remarkable and sad story regarding Bulgaria's unwanted children.  The director Kate Blewett went to what was in other words a institution in Mogilino for those children who were unwanted.  Unwanted by their parents, unwanted by their community and hidden away by the establishment.

Now after a campaign of support and solidarity towards the children from across Europe - with ambassadors and foreign ministers coming face to face with the horrors of Mogilino - the director has gone back to Bulgaria to see what has happened in the intervening two years.  And the transformation in the children's lives has been nothing short of amazing.

They are treated like the humans that they are and that is all that should be expected.  They were treated in a way that people would be rising up, if cattle was treated in such a way.

Shows what can happen when politicians get their arses into gear...

The Gamechanger

Morning,

Apologies for the lack of posting in recent days, I will give a comprehensive reason over what has happened in the next few days when hopefully it is all cleared up.

Onto more concerning matters and following the Scum's inevitable decision to withdraw it's support for Chairman Brown, Labour has reacted in probably the worse way possible, it could almost be described as being as even more ignorant as the Scum itself, and that is saying a lot.

There can be no doubt that this has been coming for some time. It is well known in political circles that George Osborne is paddy with James Murdoch the owner of News International and Andy Coulson, ex editor of the Screws is best buddies with the current Scum editor, Dominic Mohan - both have the dubious honour of having both co edited the pathetic 'Bizarre' column in that rag.

So for Labour to react in that way, shows that they have not just lost the media battle but that they do not have the nous to react to such developments like this. One of Alistair Campbell's main attributes was his ability to be able to strike down any story that rubbished Labour or Tony Blair - that is not there in Downing Street anymore and yesterday showed that up badly.

Whether the Scum, changing the support from the Red Tories to the True Tories remain to be seen, but if the paper goes for the jugular like they do with underperforming England managers, then it could be the start of eight months of torture for this administration in the build up to a potential landslide sometime in the Spring of next year.

Cheap Points...

Morning,

As I am getting ready for another day in paradise, pictures are coming in from Calais where the local Gendarme and CRS are invading 'the Jungle' where some 150 Asylum seekers, including some extremely young people having set up home for the past few months.

The pictures have not looked particularly great for the Sarkozy government, seeing young boys and girls being marched off in tears - to the credit of anti-fascist groups, such as No Borders, they have also turned up in numbers to show their support for the immigrants and have shown their disdain to the pigs who are doing Sarkozy's dirty work.

We need to continue to make governments realise that their policies on illegal immigrants are doomed to failure - the protesters are on the mark here.

No Borders, No Nations, No Repatriations...

At Last…Some Truths…

Evening,

I am writing this whilst watching the Dirty Mancs, no doubt to their utmost to connive some result over in Istanbul, the weather over there is apparently humid and hot unlike over here where the first significant rain of the autumn have somewhat dampened the atmosphere down here in Deepest Kent

Meanwhile, up in Liverpool, Chairman Brown finally said the word that the country knew had to be said.  And no, it wasn’t a admission of guilt on his part…

Chairman Brown said that there was going to have to be some form of cuts in some way of form.  Brown being concise, he did not say where these cuts were going to be but nevertheless there would be hard times coming for us poor people.  Whereas the only time the speculators and risk-takers should be doing, is some jail-time…

In fact Chairman Brown’s exact language was…

"cut costs, cut inefficiencies, cut unnecessary programmes and cut lower priority budgets"

In which case, what is inefficient?  What is unnecessary and what is lower priority?  That is the sort of language that normally ends up being played out on the streets of St Paul's', Brixton and Toxteth…

There can be no doubt that there will be the need for some form of cost reduction programme in the not-too-distant future.  Britain seems to be heading out of recession, probably by the end of this quarter, which will be good news and bad news, as once out of this quagmire, the real problems begin as no doubt whoever comes will have to raise taxes.  Talk about being given pig-sty to sort out…no wonder Brown is doing his utmost to lose the coming election, he knows just how bad the books are…

So, with cuts in public spending almost a given, is the clouds of doom rising above us, and are we going to be heading towards another showdown, circa 1978 between the Unions and the Labour Party.  And we all know, where that left us…

12 September 2009

When Will Labour Learn?

Afternoon,

I thought that Labour had learnt from the past that you can not tar an entire group with the proverbial brush otherwise you cause even more resentment.  Go tell that to Communities Minister, John Denham who has had the following to say about right-wing deadheads the EDL…IMG_0121

“…if you look at the types of demonstrations they have organised, the language used and the targets chosen, it looks pretty clear that it’s a tactic designed to provoke, to get a response and create violence…”

Of course, such language as the above will make those people who actually support the motives of the EDL and other right-wing groups even more determined to stick it to the very same people who have destroyed what they perceived to be their country and their country alone.  The perception that these same working-class, traditionally Labour-supporting people, are fascists is quite interesting, considering that amongst the flags shown at recent marches, include the Indian and Star of David.  Of course, two countries which are not exactly top of the Muslims favourites’ list… saying that, could it be that these are just badges of convenience?

The minister compared the groups to Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists which was formed in the 1930s, the most infamous march that the BUF held was the ‘Battle of Cable Street’ in 1936 when Mosley’s brown shirts attempted to lead his supporters through a Jewish area of the East End of London, leading to violent clashes.

Although I completely agree with the minister’s concerns, and they should be real, I cannot help but ask where was the concern, when Islamic extremists (because that is what they were) tried and succeeded in inciting disorder in Luton, when troops paraded back in the spring – where was the criticism of such fascist organisations such as Islam4UK (formerly known as Al-Muhajaroon) who openly want bloodshed against kuaffirs (infidels).

Why, still after pretty much every other western democracy has outlawed Hitz-u-Tahir that Britain still sees it as a legal organisation, when it is proven to have recruited supporters for terrorist missions in Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Not exactly, defending the troops that well…

There is however a bottom line to all this.  People have had enough of this pandering to the terrorist vote.  There are images in the mainstream media of a black Hamas flag being flown amongst the UAF/Muslim demonstrators in Harrow, yesterday.  That does them, nor us any good at all, as it stokes up the fear – that these demonstrators are by de facto terrorist sympathisers, by flying the Hamas flag.  The same flag which was shown in those suicide videos that those found guilty in the recent liquid bombs trials had done prior to their so-called fucking martyrdom.  Lovely…

By continuing to tar those who are scared and anxious of the way this country is going as scare-mongering and small-minded, whilst openly ignoring those Islamic fundamentalists who flout the same laws, we are pushing them into the hands of the fascists who want open conflict.  Labour, recruiting sergeant for fundamentalists and fascists…

11 September 2009

The Melting Pot...

Evening,

I see on the newswires, further confrontations tonight between right-wing thugs and what seems to be an amalgamation of left-wing anti-fascists and Muslim activists in the London borough of Harrow.

The demonstration from the "Stop Islamification of Europe" actually saw only a dozen or so deadheads converge on a mosque which is going to potentially be able to hold some 35,000 pilgrims eventually and facing up to some 1,000 local Muslims who were none too happy of outsiders making their feelings known.

My views on religion and religious buildings is clear.

Ban it and them. It always ends in claret being spilt. Twats.

10 September 2009

I am a Adult, not a fucking Child...

Morning,

Really low and down today, got to get into work early this morning as
I've agreed to do some overtime - however it just seems to me that the
slightest error I make whether that is at work or at home gets a
greater scrutiny than anyone else.

Now, that could be because of the situation that I find myself - being
still at home and been pressured by the family to be a little more
frugal in my lifestyle rather than the lazzierz-faire lifestyle that I
have grown accustomed to - arguments are going on between Mother and
Sister as I write. It is almost similar to the last days of my old
man being at home before he walked out - however I do not see such a
easy and clear-cut way out this time around and certainly not any time
soon.

Meanwhile, at work I am under investigation for the standard of call
quality that I am delivering right now - it's the third time this has
happened in recent months and considering that I get asked to deal
with calls that my manager would rather not deal with - and some of
the mistakes that are made and have to be subsequently remedied by us
are beyond belief. The standard of customer service in general
dropped like the proverbial stone in the time that I left to go
upstairs to work in the Internet department for 18 months and since
I've come back (reluctantly). Agents are talking back to managers in
a way that I could never think they would - the respect not just for
managers but also for those who have been here for years is not there.

All the above things are making me have to consider all potential
options at the moment - it feels like I am in a parallel universe with
school. Really, work right now really does feel like a fucking school
- it really does not feel like a workplace like it was upstairs. I
have implored time and again that the company need to make agents more
self-disciplined or else you need to get rid of them. The department
where I am right now has lost a lot of senior advisors in recent
months and this has not helped at all.

Seriously, people need to start acting their age and the company has
to force this upon them because if they don't they will lose the very
people they need right now.

No Control

Evening,

I think we need to comment on the latest falling out from Westminster concerning the government’s involvement in the release of the Lockerbie bomber – with news stories this morning suggesting that the Foreign Office had advised the Prime Minister to dissuade IRA victims suing Libya due to their connection in supplying weapons to the Provos – in order to protect business interests in North Africa.  So in one swift movement the accusation that we are in Afghanistan to protect business links rather than the War on Terror becomes that bit more pertinent… whoops…haven’t we been here before now…A Man Who Is Out Of Control...

Thought so, and yet it still seems like that the government has not learnt how to news-manage the narrative, so when the Tories announced through their Defence spokesman that if they were re-elected they would reopen negotiations with Libya over such payments being paid towards the IRA’s victims families, Chairman Brown had no alternative to follow the Conservatives’ lead and say that he would support campaigners demanding similar recompense as the American victims did.  In fact one of the cogs in America welcoming Libya back into the from the cold was the understanding that Libya would compensate American victims of attacks by the IRA.

To the tune of £10million…

In spite of the knowledge that the Scottish executive did take the ultimate decision to release al-Megrahi It has tarnished Britain's reputation abroad, because there is ever-increasing evidence, that the British Government had, at the very least, a powerfully compelling role in the decision.

Across the world, there is little doubt that the British Government is perceived as responsible for the Megrahi affair. Diplomatic relations with America have been strained, because Britain has broken a promise given to the US government that the Libyan would not be released before he had served his minimum tariff of 20 years. Worse, Britain is now identified with a policy of preferring money to justice, and being prepared to sell criminals in exchange for trade deals and concessions. That sets an worrying precedent.  The Americans will not want us to find Bin Laden…

Seriously, Chairman Brown has to get hold of the narrative and control it.  It is as simple as that.  That is why he bought Randy Mandy back in from Brussels, because he had lost it back then, and he has still not regained it – and to be blunt he probably will not be able to, certainly not this side of the Party Conference.  By which time, it will probably be too late.

Because of the fucking hap-hazard way that this Prime Minister has dealt with the above, his time as Prime Minister is going to come to a very brutal end.  Labour’s dillydallying has probably absolved them of any power south of Hadrian’s Wall for another 19 years…

They had so many chances to get rid of Brown and they fucked up every single time, and we’re the ones who are going to suffer…

Well Done!

A Taste Of Your Own Medicine…

Evening,

Saw this brilliant defacing of a fence on the way to the gym, this afternoon.

IMG_0119

Been hoping that someone would deface that fascist drivel.

Good to see some other open-minded people here in Deepest Kent…

Clocking On...

Morning, all.

I must be as mad as a Japanese Kamikaze pilot heading into Pearl Harbor, as I am heading into work this morning for four hours - but it's not all bad news. It's double time today and so I'm going to be earning this morning what I would earn in an entire day!

Every Little Helps...

Think the idea has to be to do as many Sundays as possible when they are being offered to us - worked it out that if we were to do every Sunday this month, along with the odd extra hour here and there, I could quite easily pick up an extra £300 in my pocket come October, which will help quite nicely towards Christmas Shopping...

All good here. Do think that I need to start repairing my friendships that I have done my best to break in recent months. There is no point in mumbling on previous arguments just for the sake of my ego...

The G20 – Some Relevant Facts…

With attention being focused on the G20 meeting in London, I thought it’d be a good time to share some interesting facts about the G20.

Let’s meet them all…

    1. Argentina
    2. Australia
    3. Brazil
    4. Canada
    5. China
    6. France
    7. Germany
    8. India
    9. Indonesia
    10. Italy
    11. Japan
    12. Mexico
    13. Russia
    14. Saudi Arabia
    15. South Africa
    16. South Korea
    17. Turkey
    18. United Kingdom
    19. United States

The 20th member of the G20 is the European Union, comprised of the following countries:

    1. Austria
    2. Belgium
    3. Bulgaria
    4. Cyprus
    5. Czech Republic
    6. Denmark
    7. Estonia
    8. Finland
    9. France
    10. Germany
    11. Greece
    12. Hungary
    13. Ireland
    14. Italy
    15. Latvia
    16. Lithuania
    17. Luxembourg
    18. Malta
    19. Netherlands
    20. Poland
    21. Portugal
    22. Romania
    23. Slovakia
    24. Slovenia
    25. Spain
    26. Sweden
    27. United Kingdom

Notice that the usual suspects of Britain, France, Germany and Italy are in essence represented twice.  Punching above their weight, some things will never change.

Surprising in their absence is such countries as Colombia (Narcotics), Israel (Amerika’s chief military exporter), Malaysia (one of the fastest yet volatile economies in the whole of Asia), New Zealand, Norway (second richest country in Europe, in terms of GDP), Switzerland (tax-haven!) and Venezuela (fastest growing oil supplier in the world – oh and the country that gave us Hugo Chavez).

So a total of 42 nations are represented, either directly or through the EU.  These nations account for 67% of the world’s population and 46% of its land mass, not including Antarctica.

The wealthiest of these nations is, by far, Luxembourg, with per capita purchasing power parity (PPP) of $85,100.  They are followed by the U.S. with per capita PPP of $48,000 and Ireland at $47,800.  The poorest, by far, is India at only $2,900 followed closely by Indonesia at $3,900.  Mexico’s is $14,400.  Among the rest of our major trading partners, China is the poorest at $6,100.  The rest are relatively wealthy with Canada at $40,300, Australia at $39,300, Germany at $34,800, Japan at $35,300, and South Korea at $26,000.

The most densely populated nations are Malta (3,295 people per square mile), South Korea (1,257), the Netherlands (1,010), Belgium (883), Japan (878) and India (869).  The least densely populated are Australia (7), Canada (8), Russia (22), Saudi Arabia (30) and Finland (40).  For reference, the U.S. has 85 people per square mile.

With the twelve nations less densely populated than the U.S., we had a trade surplus in manufactured goods of $30.9 billion in 2007.  With the 29 nations more densely populated, we had a trade deficit in manufactured goods of $466 billion in 2007.  (This is proof positive of the effect of population density in driving global trade imbalances.)

In per capita terms, the worst trade deficits in manufactured goods were with Ireland (-$4,306), followed by Estonia (-$2,132), Sweden (-$860) and Japan (-$778).  In per capita terms, our biggest trade surpluses in manufactured goods were with the Netherlands ($1,078), followed by Belgium ($896),  Australia ($622), Canada ($510) and Saudi Arabia ($270).

The large trade surpluses with the Netherlands and Belgium are an anomaly due to the Netherlands having the only deep-water port on the Atlantic coast of Europe (except for the Baltic states) and Belgium being right next door, both of them tiny countries at the cross-roads of EU commerce.  The unusually large deficit with Ireland is due almost entirely to pharmaceutical manufacturing by American companies taking advantage of enormous tax breaks offered by Ireland.

The G20 financial meeting is yet another of those glorified banquets focused on fixing the global financial crisis and economic melt-down.  Which as Chairman Brown cannot help to remind us, started in America.  Saying that though, most of the world blames America, though funnily enough no one complained about the enormous, persistent U.S. trade deficit that has propped up their own economies.  The G20 is dividing into two camps – the trade surplus nations and the trade deficit nations.  Both camps say they want to avoid protectionism.  Both camps agree that global trade imbalances lie at the root of the economic collapse.  The U.S. hopes to restore a balance by demanding that other nations like Japan, China and Germany boost their domestic consumption, making them less dependent on exports to the U.S.  But the EU fears the consequences of deficit spending.  The meeting promises to be a slug-fest, likely to end with nothing more than vague agreements and splits along the surplus/deficit line.  But agreeing on one thing…they’ll meet again for another banquet in six months…by which time, Chairman Brown might have been put out of his misery…

What’s The Latest From Westminster, Motty?

Saw this excellent piece from one of the people at PoliticalBetting, and for that its over to John Motson, at Westminster.

This time last year, Gordon’s team were 3-0 down but there were still 30 minutes left to play. The fans were chanting for the Board to remove him before the game was even finished.

Since then, GB stunned everyone and silenced his critics by bringing on his £250 billion signing - and a style of play that would save football from imminent collapse. But even spending that much has failed to score a goal. And the Germans and the French are muttering it was a pretty crap system and they are going back to their old style of play.

Then fans started hearing on their radios about player’s salaries - and what their season ticket money was being spent on - twin Swedish au pairs, dodgy second Cheshire mansions, duck ponds in Ferraris, the works. Uproar on the terraces, their players being spat at by their own fans - chaos. No-one seemed very interested in the game for a while. Then the work-horse they got from Norwich yonks ago was told he was going to be substituted, so in a hissy fit punched the referee. He got sent for an early bath.

Oh, and possible future player-manager Purnell? He walked off the pitch. He seemed to be beckoning to a couple of the other players, but they all needed to tie their laces, so couldn’t quite see him…

Late in the game, Tories United brought out their controversial new signing, Cuts (even though there was some doubt he was fit to play - and even whether their manager wanted him on the field at all) - who promptly ran on and scored a 35 yard screamer of a volley. And who is now peppering Labour City’s goal with shot after shot. Gordon has been heard to mutter “I wanted to invest in Cuts too…”

And the sorry episode of the Libyan signing won’t go away, even though the injured Megrahi has gone back to his old club now. The shoddy shirt-sponsorship deal remains deeply unpopular (although wearing “We love Colonel G! Libyan Oil for us” on the shirt was never going to help sell many replica kits). Gordon has managed what he thinks is the canny trick of saying nothing about it, whilst blaming some Scottish bloke. Many in the press, near and far, have not been convinced though.

Four-down nine-man Labour City now have just nine minutes of play left - with no chance of extra time. Gordon’s used all his subs. Many of the fans seem to be heading for the exits. A few are raising their spirits by singing “We’re shit - and we know we are!”, but mostly the terraces are silent. Next season, eh? With a new manager. At least we’ll definitely be in Europe then…

Gordon’s last best hope? Floodlight failure…

Brown is in need of some divine intervention…not going to happen, might be an early bath after all the fanfare.

Night, Night.

As I Suspected…

Morning,

It seems that I was correct in my analysis regarding the release of the Lockerbie bomber back to Libya, with reports being leaked
to the Times this morning suggestive of that it was in Britain's best interest for Megrahi not to stand in the way of a prospective oil deal between the UK and Libya.

Letters were sent two years ago by Jack Straw, the justice secretary, to Kenny MacAskill, his equivalent in Scotland, who has been extensively derided for taking the formal pronouncement to authorize Megrahi's release.

The correspondence makes it simple that the key decision to include Megrahi in a deal with Libya to allow prisoners to return home was, in fact, taken in London for British national interests.

So there it is, if you're a state, who supports terrorism, get someone to bomb innocents on a street in London or Glasgow, then offer the country unfettered access to your natural resources, and in exchange your agent is allowed home.

They do say everyone has a price…

A Treasured Life

The great Massachusetts statesman Teddy Kennedy succumbed to his brain tumour this morning at the age of 77.

Although in the shadow of his two more illustrious brothers, it can be argued long into the night that Teddy has had a greater influence on the America that is today, than either of his murdered brothers back in the time when they were in power.

It can be argued that many of the reforms that have been undertaken in previous administrations would have seen the light of day were it not for the support of Senator Kennedy - the way that he went across the floor to help Dubya get the 'Not One Left Behind' initiative running - even if he was admittedly screwed over eventually showed that his pragmatism was always at the forefront of his mind ahead of partisanship.

It will be argued forever for the events that one night in Chappadewink, that he would have become an eventual President.

He showed support and solidarity with the people of Northern Ireland as they struggled to peace and prosperity, that cannot be forgotten.

His greatest legacy, no doubt will be his way and will to get things done on his terms, no doubt that support of Kennedy towards Barack Obama elevated Obama to the Democratic ticket and eventual history.

The America we see today, has been in no small part shaped by Edward Kennedy. That is his legacy.

Back To Reality

Morning,

Went back to work for the first time yesterday and it dawned on me that with all the stress both at work and at home that I do not need all the grief that is coming my way from all sides.

The way that I am being treated as some form of slave driver by my family is getting on my back a lot and I do fear that I need to choose between my career, whether that is at my current employers or elsewhere or continue with the status quo, something that does not fill me with joy!

I cannot help that this decision is going to be somewhat assisted by the mnner in which I am being somewhat being sidelined by friends and my employers which makes me think that they are almost helping me make my choice.

Don't need this anymore, feel like I'm being screwed over anyone and everyone and as everyone knows, a animal is at it's most dangerous when it is wounded...

…and still the fallout goes on…

Evening, all

Hope you like the new layout, it’s not much similar to what it was, but as you can see the masthead has been changed somewhat!

Onto tonight’s thoughts and firstly the obligatory congratulations to Strauss’ boys for beating an equally brave and resilient Australian team – having said that I do think that if they were short of a Warney or a Glenn McGrath away from beating England.  It would be great to try and get out over to Melbourne for the Boxing Day test next December.

Back however to the moment at hand and the ever-continuing fallout surrounding the release of the Lockerbie bomber, with politicians both in Washington and London not being able to help themselves but criticise the Scottish government over the way the authorities in Edinburgh handled the affair.

There is a thought beginning to come about in certain circles, that Labour are considering launching a ‘No Confidence’ vote in the Scottish Justice Minister, Kenny Macaskill, whose somewhat ‘higher thou authoritarian’ speech to the awaiting journalists on Thursday has been widely ridiculed, by the right-wing gutter press.  If such a vote, was to go against the Scottish Administration, then it would seen plausible that Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland would tend his resignation, and then they could be looking at what would be termed to be a Extraordinary Scottish General Election.  Now that would be interesting to see.  However, as much as both the Scottish government and Lord Mandleson would like to protest, there has to be more to this than meets the eye.

Why the fuck is a letter being released now, from Chairman Brown to Colonel Gaddafi addressed to "Dear Muammar" and signed off by wishing him a happy Ramadan, suggests that the decision was well enough advanced and Brown well enough briefed to set terms for a homecoming – albeit unsuccessfully.  Brown knew what was going on, and tried to cover his tracks, as per normal.

Gordon Brown with Muammar Gaddafi at the G8 Jamboree in Italy. Whilst this letter has been released, details are emerging of a second letter written by the Foreign Office minister Ivan Lewis to MacAskill, confirming that there were no legal reasons not to let Megrahi go and concluding: "I hope on this basis you will now feel able to consider the Libyan application."

Although the Foreign Office said it was not intended to make representations either way, the leaking of the letter suggests that representations were made not just by the Libyans, but by London itself.  That causes into question what Mandleson said yesterday afternoon, alluding that those who suggested that a quid-pro-quo for oil in return for Megrahi was ‘offensive’.

Of course, Mandelson does have previous in lying to protect his own interests…

A Simple Solution

Morning,

I'm currently at the gym on the weights and have been flicking through the web for the latest news and analysis, when I have come across with this interesting bit of polling information.

Conservatives 41%(-1)
Labour 24%(nc)
Lib Dems 18% (nc)

You would have thought that with the NHS being top of the headlines in recent weeks that Labour would have clawed some of that lead back...

But alas, that is not the case, which really must cause some real angst if their #welovethenhs campaign on Twitter is not working, perhaps #getbrownout might be more successful.

NB: I will be sitting down at some point today to do a Sunday Essay, haven't decided what specifically it'll be on, but no doubt the above will certainly be mentioned...

Compassion Or Business?

That is the brutally frank question that those in the media and in government has to be asking themselves tonight following the controversial ruling by the Scottish Justice Secretary to release the only man found guilty by the authorities over the Lockerbie Massacre some 20 years ago, Abdel Basetali al-Megrahi.

There is the argument which was put forward by the minister concerned that even though the crime which al-Megrahi was found guilty was heinous without precedence, certainly at the time of the calamity, there was the sense that they should not forget their moral responsibility - hence allowing him out to pass away back in Libya.

Saying that, Libya has quite a lot of oil doesn't it and BP are in the region trying to make more money for the ailing British economy...

Questions And Answers.

Morning,

As I head out of the door this morning on the way to Paradise for another nine hour slog, I have to wonder whether or not I am as inclined to be as courteous to some people as I am normally. There has been a sense within myself in recent months that although there has been no major arguments or tiffs with anyone, that there is a sustained attempt to make life so uncomfortable for me to walk away....

Wrong Again, Harriet

Not for the first time in her abject career, Harriet Harman has shot herself in the foot by suggesting that Men-Only cabinet can have a destabilising effect on politics.

She suggests that by having a mixture of men and women in cabinet that great things can be achieved...

She's probably correct in that matter, where she comes up rather short in my opinion is stating that this has already worked in this country.

The last and only female PM was one Margaret Thatcher. Whatever happened when she was in charge?

Next time, Harriet - check your facts.

Value For Money...

Morning,

Sorry for the lack of posting in recent days, I have been having a shitty and rotten time of it, which was summed up last night by some cunt giving me a virus on my lappy which has caused me unwanted stress in having to do a system recovery on it. Not fun!

Hence why I am writing on my iPhone whilst on the way to the gym for what is seemingly another daily session, indeed the way that I can blog on events straight away without the need to rely on the laptop is making having one of these one of the best purchases that I have made!

So what is on my mind this morning? Well apart from the inevitable case of Swine Flu that is just a matter of when, not if with me - and how bad it is when I do have it, I cannot help but comment further on the situation in Afghanistan. This morning, the former minister John Hutton signalled that he felt that the Government had no option but to give the military what they needed to complete their mission in Helmand. This on the same weekend when the military began showing off one of six new warships, down at the Historic Dockyard down in Portsmouth, the total cost for these warships?

£6Billion!

It seems that although our beloved government have spent a lot of taxpayers money on the military, it is clear to me that it has not been spent as well as it should have been. The troops on the frontline have criticised that the equipment that has been given to them to fight the Taliban has been sub-standard - further proven to be the case with a report in the weekend's papers that a cut-and-paste Chinook has been on operations in Afghanistan, with half of it belonging to a Chinook which was shot down in the Falklands, 27 years ago. This is quite remarkable and disbelieving when you consider that there has been six brand new Chinook under mothballs since 2001.

Now with the top military brass, Sir Richard Dannet and Sir Jock Stirrup have both been widely quoted, and David Cameron and Nick Clegg having bee also piling the pressure on the government, there is one not-unrelated story this weekend which is in the media narrative. That being the delay to the decision about Trident until next year at the earliest.

For those of you who are not aware of the importance of Trident to the military and to the country as a whole, Trident is Britain's nuclear detterent against those groups who would want to do untold damage.

It seems to me that in the current economic circumstances that the country finds itself in, profligacy will not be tolerated by any government department, and the response of many in the country on hearing that ‘there is no such thing as enough helicopters’ will be split between those who would simply sign the cheque, and those who would prefer to withdraw altogether.

Where I think both those groups would be united, however, is that if significantly more money is to be spent on Defence then for as long as British troops are still in Afghanistan, that money should go on helicopters, armoured vehicles, body armour, and protection against IEDs.

I believe that whilst British troops are fighting and dying in the scorching heat of Helmand - no government worth it's salt can justify blowing £20bn on something which it is argued, particularly with both the Russians and the Americans agreeing to cuts in their nuclear arsenal, will not be needed never.

Hopefully, for once the government will heed away from sanctioning yet another White Elephant...

Why Do We Tolerate Them?

Evening,

I see Nick Griffin was on Auntie yesterday morning. Thankfully, I was not near a television screen as I was at the gym. Apparently, Andrew Marr was his pathetic self in dealing with the racist thug's views on the world.

Why is it that the BBC feel that they should give him and his fascist friends airtime to vent their party's opinions? I would be arguing against giving the cunts air full stop.

Seriously, the only way to fight the fash is on their own terms and the only terms these fuckers know is with the fist and the boot...

Some Home Truths...

Evening,

And quite a dark evening indeed for the country, with news filtering in over the airwaves that a further five British Servicemen have been killed in the on-going conflict in Afghanistan, taking the death-toll over the number that have been killed in the Iraq war.

Some 184 soldiers have now died since the conflict begun in the aftermath of 9/11. The idea of the invasion of Afghanistan was to rid the country of the despotic Taliban and to eventually cause the downfall of Al Qaeda (remember them?). Both objectives to be brutal are as far away as being completed now than they ever were, contrary to what the mainstream media would like you to believe.

Obviously, it is becoming clearer as time moves on that the troops out there are being kitted out quite shoddily by our fabled government, something that is showing to be the case as some of the deaths are being caused because of the equipment that they are being forced to use on their patrols are not capable to protect troops from improvised explosions which happen on the roadside. Some soldiers are being forced to buy their own gear for warfare, because the kit that they get given is just not suitable.

The former head of the armed forces, General Lord Guthrie has said that this is the case - that troops are dying because the military is short of money.

It is all well and good offering the country's services to the American government - but if you're not going to give the soldiers that do your dirty work, the tools that they need to do your dirty work - then it will end with coffins coming back to this country - and a ever growing anger towards our beloved government at the way that they have mistreated the military. I heard a comment from a relative of one of the fallen soldiers which was rather scathing, saying that she wanted the defence secretary 'shot' and sacked immediately. Considering that Bob Ainsworth has only been in the job for barely a month, that seems a bit rash, but considering their loss, it is quite understandable.

Brown underestimated the support in the country for the Gurkhas when he tried to deny them equal rights as their British counterparts, I do hope for his sake he doesn't do the same for the military in general.

Otherwise, he really is delusional...

They Are Still There...

A good month or so after the initial protests began in Tehran and subsequently broke out in other large cities throughout Iran, the supporters of moderate leader Mousavi have come out in support of their political leader today - it is also the 10th Anniversary of the uprising by Iranian students which was crushed by the state.

I found this video off the HuffPost continuing live blogging coverage which has been constant from the outset, unlike the coverage from the mainstream media.

I expect the ever-fluid situation in Iran to continue to be in the media narrative over the coming months - news is leaking out of Tehran tonight of the renewing of chants of 'Allah Akhbar' on rooftops across the Iranian capital - these chants are synonomous with the eventual overthrow of the Shah which came about after some 12 months of the sort of demonstrations that we are seeing now, back in 1979.

There Is A Problem...

I cannot help but feel that there is a ever-continuing weird atmosphere in the air right now. With the economy in the swanee and with the weather not being able to decide whether or not to be gorgeous or ghastly - the populace at heart seem to have no clue whether they are coming or going.

Their representatives in Parliament (I know, some should be eating porridge but still) seem so far detached from reality and yet there they are trying to delay investigations into their expenses, which thankfully was defeated by the Lords last night, but still they agree to obscene pay increases, whilst pensions and saving continue to fall by the wayside.

Meanwhile, their football clubs are spending stupid and fucking hideous amounts of money on the latest uber-wunderkind who hasn't got any experience in the top division, but still any excuse to spend millions and billions of supporters' hard earned, just for the sake of it...

Seriously, some people need a fucking reality check and quickly...

A Self Indulgent Rant

Evening,

As I write it seems that the long-sought peace between Mother and my sister has been somewhat broken for some unknown reason or another - whatever it is, it is probably something pathetically petty and insignificant compared to the horrors and injustices that continue in the world that we live in at the moment, not that they care much about world hunger, or for that matter world peace. Keeping the peace between those two for a period of time is as trying as keeping both Israel and Palestine happy at the same time.

Not easy.

The government in recent days has announced that they are entering the second stage of dealing with the Swine Flu pandemic. Yes it is that now, even though the WHO has not confirmed that it is such that. The British authrorities think that it is important to try and allow it to take it's course. Which will mean many other people will more than likely die because of this method. Instead of concentrating on the hot spots where the outbreak began to show it's hand in Glasgow and the West Midlands, they are now adopting the tried and inevitably failed idea of vaciennating only those who have underlying health issues and the elderly.

Already some five people have died in this outbreak, all of them had some form of health issue which doctors say caused them to have severe symptoms. What will the government's response when the opposite happens and someone with a clear health history dies?

That is the worry that I have this evening...

Meanwhile, Back In Blighty..

At the start of the year, both Chairman Brown and Commissar Darling both stated that the economy would be back on the up by the start of July. Well with one day left to that peripeheral deadline, figures has shown that the economy shrunk by some 2.4% in the first quarter of this year. The fastest decline in some 50 years.

This follows on from comments made by the OECD that they expect the UK to suffer 'a severe recession'. Isn't that a depression? Ah, now I can see why Chairman Brown stopped mid-sentence at the start of the year, when he was caught using the dreaded 'D' word.

We're fucked, Brown and Darling knows that we're done for and they seem like they are going to try and take the entire ship down with them. Labour's going to be out of government for a generation unless they can do something drastic, and even then that will probably not be enough.

28 June 2009

Some Thoughts...

Evening,

Considering what has been dominating the news agenda these past few days, with the passing of a certain Mr Jackson the ever-fluid situation in Iran seems to have gone off the media radar - however the news today that some eight Iranian employees of the British Embassy in Tehran could, certainly in Britain at least begin to concentrate minds in Westminster.

The language used by the government has been encouraging, the expulsion of two Iranian diplomats as part of a tit-for-tat diplomatic roulette game seems boring and pointless, particularly to those who are continuing to demostrate on the streets of Tehran, Istafan and Shiraz who are taking their lives into their own hands by continuing their resistance to the demands of the Supreme Leader.

What else is there can Britain, the E.U or the wider international community can do to pressure the regime in Tehran to listen to the protesters - instead of pepper them down with bullets, or are we going to sit on our hands and wait for things to get worse, or even more dire, for events to kick off closer to home to force our hand. History teaches us, that we must cut the head off, before it is able to spread it's bile to the rest of the world - or do politicians never learn from past mistakes?

Michael Jackson Passes On...

First things first, I have to say that I'm not surprised at this news. Looking at his personal self in recent years suggests to me that his personal health was not was it once was.
However, I do have to say that I find it more than a little hypocritical that the media are falling over themselves to pay homage to MJ, when it was them who let us be brutal could not help themselves to ridicule him.
In the end like Diana before him, the press have the blood of Michael Jackson's all over them. And I hope everyone remember that. Because the bastards deserve what is going to eventually come to them.

Some Reading For You…

Morning,

I have been reading an awful lot of blogs in the past few days and the general consensus is that Obama and Brown are spot on in their approach to the Mad Ayatollah.  We cannot rise to the bait that they are encouraging us to do.  There is too much at stake…

These interesting reads that I mention below can give you a far better understanding about the situation in Tehran and other cities within the country.

First things first, may I point you to the excellent live blog that the HuffPost’s Nico Pitney has been doing since the first restless day of protests in the Iranian capital.  Nico’s blog has impressed so much that he was invited to the White House to answer a question to President Obama – and got the question to ask from those in Iran.

Secondly, the award-winning blogger Andrew Sullivan has been updated his blog with the latest tweets from those on the ground in Iran, as well as his own thoughts.

And that about it.  This is the problem with trying to read the latest out of besieged countries such as what Iran is right now.  There is so few reliable correspondents in the country right now, either because they have been kicked out, as in the case of the BBC’s Jon Leyne, or sadly they are being taken out by the cuntish paramilitaries that the Mad Ayatollah has recruited to do his dirty bidding.  Keep them in your thoughts…

Some Thoughts...

Evening,

I am wondering tonight how far the British government is willing to go in this tit-for-tat diplomatic game with the Iranian regime.  The way that Chairman Brown tried to act all tough when announcing the news that diplomats had been expelled from London, did not sound too convincing.  This is all for political posturing.  Why do they not go searching for the money?

I say that because there is news floating around this evening that the son of Ayatollah Khameini has had his bank assets, based in the UK frozen.  To the tune of a cool £1.2billion.  So much for having any form of religious responsibility...

I would be intrigued to see just how much the Ayatollah has got tucked away in his Zurich bank account...
